Wentworth Wins Second Straight

BOSTON, Mass. – Junior midfielder Dan Santacroce (Northford, Conn.) scored with 24:10 remaining to snap a 1-all ties and lift the Wentworth men's soccer team to its second straight win, a 2-1 victory over Endicott in a The Commonwealth Coast Conference contest played on Sweeney Field.

The opening portion of the contest was a back and forth affair with both teams having opportunities to score, but neither breaking the ice.  At the 27:13 mark, senior midfielder Ben Nasman (Lenox, Mass.) capitalized on a loose ball inside the box, firing home a shot to the high left side to give the hosts a 1-0 lead.

Endicott evened the score at the 32:43 mark when junior forward Jared Rizzo (Peabody, Mass.) made a touch pass to sophomore midfielder Kevin Gnecco (North Hampton, N.H.).  Gnecco rifled a shot from 25 yards out that would go over the outstretched arms of Leopard senior keeper Brian Pearsall (Sanford, Maine).  The game remained tied at the half, with the Gulls holding a 9-5 shot advantage.

Santacroce put the Leopards ahead when he rifled a shot from just outside the box that would go inside of the right post at 65:50.  The Gulls would put a pair of shots on goal in an effort to send the game to overtime, but Pearsall made a pair of key saves.

Pearsall finished the game with nine saves, while Endicott sophomore Daniel Higgins (Kingstown, R.I.) turned aside two shots.  The Gulls held a 16-11 shot advantage for the game.

With the win Wentworth improves to 8-6-0 overall and 6-4-0 in conference play.  The Leopards host Nichols Tuesday night.  The Gulls see their two-game win streak come to an end and travel to Colby-Sawyer tomorrow.
