Overview
With the Northern opener on March 6 postponed due to
unplayable field conditions, the 2013 edition of the Wentworth
baseball team will once again open its season in a much warmer
climate as the Leopards will be traveling to Central Florida from
March 9-17.
Ninth-year head coach Steve
Studley and his squad will
once again be participating in the RussMatt
Central Florida Invitational where the
Leopards will play 10 games against five different
opponents. In a change from years past, the Black & Gold
will play all doubleheaders, while having a practice day and a
traditional day off. On Sunday, March 10, Wentworth will play a
doubleheader against Cazenovia at 1:00 p.m. and will follow it up a
day later with two against SUNY IT, beginning at 3:00 p.m.
Tuesday, March 12, features a scheduled practice before the
Leopards return to the diamond on Wednesday, March 13, with a
twinbill against Fitchburg State at 9:30 a.m. After a day off on
Thursday, March 14, Wentworth faces Colby-Sawyer on Friday, March
15 (1:30 p.m.) and Franklin & Marshall on Saturday, March 16
(9:00 a.m.). The Leopards will return to Boston on Sunday morning,
March 17, before commencing their northern schedule on Wednesday,
March 20, at Brandeis.
In a challenging, 12-game schedule a year ago, Wentworth finished
this trip with a 7-5 record and have had a successful, 29-18 record
on its spring trip since the 2008 season.
The pages contained in this section should give you the most
up-to-date information of the Leopards’ trip. Associate
Director of Athletics Bill Gorman will
be accompanying the team on the trip and will be providing fans
with game stories, box scores, photos, as well as daily
updates. Additionally, if there is internet access at any of
the fields, "live statistics" will be available as well as the
possibility of on-line broadcasts (audio, video, or both). Be
sure to check the Wentworth Athletics home
page to see if either the live stats function
and/or audio broadcasts will be available. If neither are
available, the Wentworth Athletics home page will contain updated
scores and highlights each evening. **PLEASE NOTE THAT
CIRCUMSTANCES BEYOND THE CONTROL OF THE ATHLETICS DEPARTMENT MAY
RESULT IN NO LIVE COVERAGE FOR ANY GIVEN GAME AS WELL AS THE
POSSIBILITY THAT GAME RECAPS AND FINAL STATISTICS MAY BE DELAYED IN
BEING POSTED**
Please check back often for schedule and itinerary updates and
after Wentworth begins practicing on February 3 for
updated team information. With 14 players returning there is
much optimism for yet another successful season for the
Leopards.
